Detroit ― As we await confirmation of what seems a foregone conclusion, that Tarik Skubal will win a second straight American League Cy Young Award ― the award was to be presented on MLB Network at 7 p.m. Wednesday ― let’s try to put these two seasons into some historical perspective.
Skubal would be the first American League pitcher to win the award in back-to-back years since Red Sox Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez won it in 1999 and 2000. Five National League pitchers have won in consecutive years since the turn of the century.
