WESTFIELD, Iowa (KTIV) - It was the luck of the draw for the two candidates for Westfield Mayor on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
The Plymouth County Supervisors held an open session to canvass the results of the General Election from Nov. 4. Michael Bohlke and Willard McFarland both received 22 votes.
To settle the tie, supervisors put the candidates’ names in a hat, leaving the winner up to chance.
Luck was on Bohlke’s side, who ended up winning the draw.
This is not the first time that the Board of Supervisors has drawn from a hat to determine a winner, with the last one occurring two years ago.
Westfield is located in western Plymouth County and is right by the Iowa/South Dakota border, a few miles northeast of Elk Point. The latest U.S. Census data says Westfield has a population of about 1
