WASHINGTON — Attorneys representing a 15-year-old transgender girl from West Virginia and her mother have filed a response brief with the Supreme Court of the United States, challenging a 2021 state law that bars the girl from participating on girls' athletic teams.
The case, West Virginia v. B.P.J. , involves Becky Pepper-Jackson, a runner who wants to participate in track with her peers. She and her mother, Heather Jackson, are represented by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the ACLU of West Virginia, Lambda Legal, and Cooley LLP.
