MONTGOMERY, Ala. ( WSFA ) - What’s in a name? Maybe a lot if you’re one of the two turkeys Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey is planning to pardon in the coming days.

The state’s top elected official is swooping in to grant clemency to two giant gobblers, saving them from a sentence next to the mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce.

Before she can show mercy, however, Ivey will need help on a clerical matter: figuring out what the birds’ names are so she can stuff it into the required paperwork.

To assist her, Ivey’s office has turned to a powerful constituency of young Alabama school students. Their mission? Come up with some patriotic names so the chief executive - and not an executive chef - has the final call on the matter.
