RICHMOND, Texas — There's been an arrest in the 2024 stabbing death of a mother of four and an elementary school teacher's aide at the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District.

Lamarcus Smith is charged with murder in the death of his wife, 37-year-old Laura Smith . The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office said she died from "traumatic injuries" inside the couple's Richmond home last May.

At the time, Lamarcus Smith was a deputy with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office. Constable Mark Herman said Lamarcus Smith abruptly resigned after meeting with internal affairs about his wife’s death.

He was also an FBCSO deputy before he joined Precinct 4 a few months before his wife's death.

He's being held on a $500,000 bond, according to the Fort Bend County District Attorne
