A beloved backcountry Adirondacks ski center delivered bad news just before the first snowstorm of the season blanketed Upstate New York in skiable snow.

Hickory Ski Center has “no plans” to open its historic Warrensburg resort during the 2025-2026 season, the center’s manager announced Friday in a Facebook post .

Aside from the mention of Hickory getting a “new management model,” no reason for the closure was given.

The announcement was met with sadness from the center’s devoted fans.

“The backcountry community sighs,” one commenter wrote. “Will miss skiing the legend this year.”

“You guys poured your heart and soul into Hickory,” another wrote. ”I’m sorry to read this."
