A move to ban fishing at two local lakes in Stirling, prompted by reports of animal cruelty, has ballooned into a sweeping proposal covering around 16 lakes and wetlands across the City of Stirling.
At Tuesday night’s council meeting, councillors voted to progress changes to Stirling’s local laws that would formally prohibit fishing at these sites.
The motion, brought forward by Cr Teresa Olow, originally only included Roselea and Princeton lakes in Stirling, where the RSPCA has previously alleged that minors had been seen deliberately hooking a black swan while fishing in the area, among several other reported incidents of wildlife being injured by fishing hooks.
According to the RSPCA, seven cases of wildlife sustaining hook-related injuries have been documented near the two lakes sin
