HANCOCK COUNTY -- The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office is warning people about a scam that involves someone claiming to be from their office.

That person is requesting samples of DNA and in some cases, claims you have a warrant for your arrest.

They say the person tries to pressure you into making a payment over the phone using Apple Pay, gift cards or other untraceable methods.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office says they will never ask for DNA, financial information or payments this way.

They say if you do get one of these calls, do not provide information.

They say you should hang up immediately.
