TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WTOC) - Post-traumatic stress disorder affects a significant number of our nation’s heroes. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, 7% of all veterans struggle with PTSD. That’s thousands of men and women who bravely served our country, now facing a different kind of battle at home.

One local veteran, who felt like he’d reached the end, found an unexpected lifeline: fishing and the calming presence of the water. Now, he dedicates his life to bringing that same healing power to other veterans every single day.

For Air Force veteran Monica Everett, offshore fishing isn’t just a pastime; it’s a path to healing.

“For those of us who live with PTSD, it is just basically that’s just one way to heal,” said Everett.
