The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred Monday morning involving a husband and wife in the 4500 block of Ottawa Trail in Sarasota.

Deputies responded to a reported battery incident around 10:08 a.m. and found a woman who had been shot and conscious when deputies arrived. A rifle was located on the ground in the outside parking area, according to the sheriff’s office.

The woman’s husband, 75-year-old Robert Hennings, was at the scene and arrested. He faces charges of attempted first-degree premeditated murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, deputies said.

Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment. Deputies searched the home and confirmed there were no additional victims.
