ANDERSON, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - A man charged with driving under the influence, resulting in the death of an Anderson County detective , appeared in court Wednesday afternoon.
South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened on U.S. 29 near Vernon Street around 1:15 p.m. on Oct. 1. A 2005 Buick sedan hit a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle that was trying to turn into a private drive from U.S. 29.
The motorcycle driver died at the scene, while the driver of the Buick was not injured, according to troopers.
The coroner’s office identified the victim as Detective Mark Garrett, 56, with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) and ruled his death as accidental. He was off duty at the time of the crash.
