CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — An officer with the Chillicothe Police Department received praise for saving the life of a 9-month-old girl who was choking.
Police say on Oct. 12, Jon Campbell responded to a call involving a choking infant.
Campbell arrived in front of a residence where the mother handed the infant to him. Body camera footage shows the officer giving the baby several blows on the back and she started to cry, indicating her airway was cleared.
“His decisive actions and unwavering commitment to preserving life exemplify the highest standards of professionalism, courage, and service upheld by the Chillicothe Police Department,” police said in a social media post.
Campbell was presented with the Medal of Merit in recognition of his life-saving actions.
