Dearborn — Nearly 600 people have already applied for a new cash aid program launched this week in Dearborn that gives no-strings-attached assistance to pregnant women and new parents to help ease the financial hardship of raising babies.
The program, Rx Kids, provides $1,500 to mothers during pregnancy and $500 per month for the first six months of the baby's life. Dearborn is one of six Wayne County communities where the program launched Monday after the Wayne County Commission approved $7.5 million in funding last week to support it.
