In a spine-chilling turn of events at one of India’s most vibrant cultural spectacles, about eight visitors to the annual Baliyatra festival were left suspended in mid-air after a swing ride malfunctioned during peak evening hours.

The incident, which unfolded around 7:30 PM at the sprawling fairgrounds on the banks of the Mahanadi River, has sparked widespread alarm over amusement ride safety amid the throngs of excited crowds.

The ride, a popular attraction known locally as “Doli” – a towering swing that mimics the sway of ancient seafaring vessels – ground to a sudden halt, stranding passengers approximately 30 feet above the ground.
