Former President Barack Obama made a surprise visit to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to welcome Wisconsin veterans as they arrived at Washington, D.C., ahead of Veterans Day.
Air National Guard veteran Tom Ellis from Dane County was on the flight with his grandson. Ellis shared, "This spring, I got a call and said, you're going on the honor flight." He never guessed he would meet Obama, who expressed gratitude for the veterans' sacrifices.
Ellis recounted, "And then Obama keeps walking on the plane and we're sitting in row three and we're right there." His grandson, Carter, captured the moment on video, describing it as a "pretty, pretty cool experience."
The veterans, part of the Badger Honor Flight program, served in the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War. They
