Jameis Winston was Drew Brees ' immediate successor as New Orleans Saints quarterback. So it's only fitting that as Brees returns to the broadcast booth , it'll be Winston on the field throwing passes.
Winston will officially make his first start of the season for the New York Giants on Sunday, the team confirmed Wednesday. He's forced into action — jumping fellow veteran Russell Wilson on the depth chart — after rookie QB Jaxson Dart suffered a concussion last week.
Looking down on him from the booth will be Brees, Super Bowl-winning Saints QB who retired in 2021. Winston was Brees' backup during the 2020 season and was eventually chosen to replace him the next year.
Brees has been hired on at Fox as a color commentator and will reportedly finish out the season in that role.
