A 17-year-old was taken into custody after bringing a loaded handgun to a Newark school on Wednesday, Nov. 17, authorities said.
At 9:06 a.m., police responded to Great Oaks Charter School at 17 Crawford St. after the boy attempted to enter the school with a handgun, Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda said.
The student set off the metal detector and a metal detector wand before the loaded handgun was discovered in his book bag, Miranda said. He was taken into custody without further incident, Miranda said.
