Contee Cross

Family and friends are reeling after the sudden loss of 21-year-old Contee Cross, who was fatally stabbed in Southeast DC over the weekend.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded around 8:35 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, to the 1300 block of Morris Road Southeast for a report of a medical emergency.

DC Fire and EMS found Cross suffering from a stab wound to the upper body and rushed him to a nearby hospital.

Police said Cross was conscious and breathing when he was transported, but his condition worsened. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The department’s Homicide Branch continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding his killing. As of Wednesday, Nov. 12, no arrests have been announced.

Cross’s family described him as “a very loving person who showed much love for everyone, from family to friends and everyone in his neighborhood,” according to a GoFundMe campaign created by Kyara Hammonds, who identified herself as a relative.

“On Nov. 8, Contee Cross was taken from us after being stabbed multiple times,” Hammonds wrote.

“During this time, our family is left with little to no information about Contee’s murder, which is making it even harder for us because we just don’t understand why someone would take him from us like this.”
