Twenty-one distressed cats in the process of being moved to the Lower Mainland were instead directed to SPCA shelters in Kelowna and Penticton.

An unidentified elderly couple outside B.C. realized they could no longer properly care for the cats, and were headed to the Lower Mainland to give them away. But they realized the cats needed immediate attention, and never completed the journey.

Some of the cats were kept in Kelowna while others were moved to Penticton.

“Unfortunately, this type of situation is something we’re seeing a lot right now, especially with the cost of living rising so quickly and so many other social concerns impacting our communities,” says SPCA representative Matt Affleck.
