Democrat Jordan Wood has dropped his Senate campaign, leaving Gov. Janet Mills and oysterman Graham Platner in the primary to challenge Republican Sen. Susan Collins.

The switch sets up a fiercely competitive House race in Maine’s 2nd District, where former Gov. Paul LePage is the leading Republican candidate.

Both races could shift the balance of power in Congress, with the 2nd District considered a Republican priority.
