The mother of a 15-year-old victim of an adolescence-style murder has told how she learned of the attack from a stranger using her daughter's phone.

Logan MacPhail was sentenced to life with a minimum term of 17 years at Newcastle Crown Court for killing Holly Newton in January 2023. MacPhail, who was unhappy about their break-up, followed Holly when she finished school before knifing her 36 times and stabbing a teenage boy who tried to save her.
