ALEXANDRIA — Although it is no longer housed in the Carnegie Building, the Douglas County Library is one of numerous libraries receiving a $10,000 gift from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, founded by Andrew Carnegie.

The award is part of Carnegie Libraries 250 , a special initiative celebrating the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and honoring the roughly 1,280 Carnegie Libraries still serving their communities across the United States. The gift recipients can expect to receive a check in January 2026. They may use the funds however they wish to celebrate the 250th anniversary, further their mission, and benefit their community, according to information on carnegie.org.
