Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime has battled back from a set down to survive a barrage of big-serving from American Ben Shelton and earn his first victory at this year's ATP Finals, 4-6 7-6 (9-7) 7-5.

Shelton's service game powered him to win the opening set on Wednesday at the Inalpi Arena but Auger-Aliassime forced a decider with a tiebreak victory and converted a third match point to break the American's serve.

Both players had lost their opening round-robin matches, Shelton beaten by Alexander Zverev and Auger-Aliassime by defending champion Jannik Sinner and the chances of making the semi-finals now look bleak for the American.
