Akon was arrested in Georgia over the weekend after police issued a warrant on a vehicle registered to the singer.

The Grammy-nominated hip-hop star (real name: Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam) was approached by authorities on Friday, Nov. 7, after officers from the Chamblee Police Department received a wanted person alert for a white Tesla Cybertruck from the Roswell Police Department, according to an incident report obtained by USA TODAY on Wednesday, Nov. 12.

The Roswell Police Department noted the vehicle's owner was flagged due to a suspended license, according to a separate investigation report obtained by USA TODAY.

Officers found the vehicle parked at Tint World, an automotive styling business, per the Chamblee report. Upon arrival, police saw a man who matched the registered owner's description.

Police then ran the man's license information, revealing him to be Akon, and confirmed the singer matched the individual described in the warrant, the report stated. Officers then informed Akon of his arrest, with authorities noting he remained "calm" and subsequently told them that he was aware of the warrant.

USA TODAY has reached out to Akon's representatives for comment.

During the arrest, Akon, 52, was searched by police. No weapons or contraband were found on his person, according to the Chamblee arrest report. The "Smack That" singer was later taken to the DeKalb County Jail, where he was released to on-duty detention officers.

Akon, who was booked around 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 7, was released from police custody the same day at 6:30 p.m., according to a review of DeKalb County jail records by USA TODAY.

Per the Roswell Police Department's report, Akon's warrant stems from a Sept. 10 incident, during which the singer's Cybertruck was discovered stranded by police after the vehicle's battery had died. Officers later made contact with Akon and after running the vehicle's information, police discovered he had a suspended license.

Akon was issued a citation for driving with a suspended license and later released from the scene due to "manpower issues in the city."
