Rob Gronkowski last played for the Buccaneers in the 2021 season, but NFL fans will always remember Gronk as the legendary New England Patriots tight end.
And on Wednesday, he made that official.
In a retirement ceremony with the Patriots, Gronkowski signed a one-day contract so he could officially end his football career as a member of the Patriots. Though Gronk had been effectively retired since that Divisional Round loss to the Rams in January of 2022, Patriots owner Robert Kraft joked about extending the one-day contract to a two-day deal.
That way, Gronk could suit up for Thursday night's game against the Jets. Gronkowski, of course, had fun with the comment.
"What's the signing bonus?"
In his 16 games against the Jets, Gronkowski went 13-3 and hauled in nine touchdowns for 933 yards. That's some serious production against a division rival, and he is just a few months older than Travis Kelce after all.
Hey, it was worth a shot. I'm sure Drake Maye wouldn't have minded that.
