People who live near the 19th Street bridge that goes over Interstate 83 might want to wear earplugs to bed Saturday night.

The bridge will be demolished using explosives. People in the area will not only hear it but also will feel it and see it.

“You will be able to see it if you are nearby. You can’t miss it,” said Dave Thompson, community relations coordinator for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 8 .

For drivers, though, there’s another concern: there will be traffic delays.

The bridge was closed on Oct. 26. The new bridge will not open for another year. The work is part of the ongoing, massive Interstate 83 Capital Beltway project that is not expected to be entirely completed until 2040.
