CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Guardians find themselves in an unusual position — potentially benefiting financially from the ongoing Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz betting scandal. According to Cleveland.com’s Paul Hoynes on a recent Cleveland Baseball Talk podcast, the Guardians could be freed from their financial obligations to Clase if MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred determines the players violated league rules.
“From everything I’ve heard, the Guardians will not have to pay that guaranteed $6 million that they owe Clase, which is the final guaranteed year on his $20 million contract,” Hoynes explain
