White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt and Rep. Melanie Stansbury

Democrats on the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday released several emails from convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein mentioning President Donald Trump before he launched his political career. And one Oversight Committee Democrat is poking holes in the White House's narrative to explain the emails.

The New York Times reported that in one April 2011 email between Epstein and his top accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein referred to Trump as the "dog that hasn’t barked." He added that one victim — whose name was redacted by the executor of Epstein's estate in a tranche of emails sent to the Oversight Committee in response to a subpoena — "spent hours at my house with [Trump]." Maxwell responded: "I have been thinking about that."

On Wednesday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt asserted that Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre (who died by suicide earlier this year) was the victim in question whose name had been redacted. She proceeded to point out that Giuffre had never directly accused Trump of any crimes.

"These emails prove absolutely nothing other than the fact that President Trump did nothing wrong," Leavitt said. "And what President Trump has always said is that he was from Palm Beach, and so was Jeffrey Epstein. Jeffrey Epstein was a member at Mar-a-Lago until President Trump kicked him out, because Jeffrey Epstein was a ... creep."

However, in a Wednesday interview with CNN host Brianna Keilar, Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.), who is a member of the Oversight Committee, said that the emails came to the committee redacted. She argued there was no way for the White House to know the victim's name unless they have additional knowledge about Trump's interactions with Epstein that they have not yet disclosed.

"I think it's convenient that the White House is trying to choose an alibi," Stansbury said. "Why does the White House know at all who Donald Trump was hanging out with at Jeffrey Epstein's house, who was one of the sex trafficking accusers? Like, this should be raising every hair in the back of your neck right now."

"Whether or not Virginia Giuffre has accused the president of wrongdoing, what I'd like to say to the American people is, believe your eyes," she continued. "We have all seen the photographs of Donald Trump with underage girls sitting on his lap. We know that he was best friends with Jeffrey Epstein for more than a decade. We know that he has not complied with our Congressional subpoena of the DOJ files, and we know that he is named multiple times in those files. So believe your eyes, believe your ears."
