An estimated 125,000 patients in Minnesota are in limbo as a contract dispute between United Healthcare and M Health Fairview drags on.

Fairview patients recently began receiving letters in the mail letting them know health services may soon be out-of-network if a deal between the two parties isn’t made.

“For several months, Fairview and United Healthcare have been working on a new contract for Fairview’s participation in UHC’s insurance plans, including plans offered through employers,” the letter details.

If a deal isn’t reached, M Health Fairview will become an out-of-network provider for United Healthcare plan holders starting on January 1, 2026. These negotiations do not impact Medicare Advantage plans.
