OLYMPIA, Wash. -- A philanthropic organization is working with Washington state to greatly expand early education slots for kids.

Governor Bob Ferguson says the state has teamed up with Ballmer Group Philanthropy for a new grant for Washington's Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP).

The Ballmer Group has committed to fund an additional 10,000 seats for the next 10 years. This would raise the total amount of ECEAP slots by more than 50%. It will provide more than $1 billion in early learning support over the next decade.

ECEAP provides free preschool and family support for low-income families.
