WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — Legal counsel for Andrew McGann , the man accused of killing two hikers at Devil's Den State Park, has entered 19 new court filings, including one that asks the court to exclude the death penalty.
McGann, a 29-year-old teacher last living in Springdale, was arrested after allegedly killing Clinton and Cristen Brink on July 26 while they were hiking with their two young daughters.
McGann was charged with and later pleaded not guilty to two counts of capital murder, and prosecutors have expressed they are seeking the death penalty.
On Nov. 12, just days before McGann was set to appear in court, his counsel filed nearly two dozen motions and notices, marking various requests of the defense in what is expected to be a lengthy legal process.
