If you missed the opportunity to see the northern lights Tuesday night, don't worry. Wednesday night you can see them from your backyard.
The phenomenon provides a rare opportunity to see the northern lights, or what scientists call an aurora.
Kevin Hon with the Barnard Astronomical Society says there's a lot of science behind what's causing the pretty colors.
"So the northern lights are basically an interaction of particles from a big solar flare from the sun interacting with our magnetic sphere, that we have around Earth,” said Hon.
To view the lights you need to be looking north after the sunset. No equipment is needed to see the lights.
