Dan Sapienza, a Fort Collins attorney, announced a campaign for Larimer County Commissioner Tuesday, seeking to succeed Commissioner John Kefalas in District 1.
Kefalas is not seeking reelection after his current term expires in 2026.
Sapienza said he is an admirer of Kefalas, and initially ran for the seat in 2018, but dropped out when Kefalas entered the race.
Now that Kefalas is stepping away from the board, Sapienza said he sees his role as continuing the commissioner’s work going forward.
“I knew he would do a good job for the county, so I decided I didn’t want to run against somebody I respected so much, so I dropped out of the race to support him,” Sapienza said. “He’s done a phenomenal job for the county, he’s worked hard on a lot of the policy areas that I’m interested in and
