ALEXANDRIA — Locals came to show their gratitude for area veterans on Tuesday during a program held at Reach Church in Alexandria.
The Veterans Day program started at 11 a.m. and lasted about an hour.
"Today marks the anniversary of the Armistice that ended World War I in 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month," said current Post Commander Steve Clipperton of VFW Post 936. "Originally known as Armistice Day, in 1954 the name was changed to Veterans Day to honor veterans of all U.S. wars, both living and deceased.
"On Veterans Day, we thank and honor all those who have served honorably in the military, in wartime or in peace," Clipperton said.
Colors were posted by members of VFW Post 936, with bugle played by Gina Christopherson.
The invocation was delivered by Past
