ST. PAUL — The timeline for the trial of Vance Boelter, the alleged assassin of Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, remains unclear after a status conference hearing Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the federal courthouse in Minneapolis.

According to court filings, federal Judge Dulce J. Foster granted a motion from Boelter’s defense team to extend the deadline to file pretrial motions.

The 10-minute hearing Wednesday also didn’t shed light on whether the U.S. would seek the death penalty — a decision federal prosecutors have said will ultimately come from Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Boelter’s lawyer, Manny K. Atwal, said the defense team is sifting through 130,000 pages of documents, 825 hours of audio and video, and 2,000 photos, according to MPR.
