Nashville SC is moving on from one of the franchise’s original cornerstones.

The team will not be re-signing center back Walker Zimmerman, who has been with Nashville for all six of the club’s MLS seasons, serving as captain for the Boys in Gold.

The 32-year-old Zimmerman, one of Nashville’s three designated players, was in the final year of his contract and will become an unrestricted free agent.

“Walker will be forever tied to the history of our club,” NSC General Manager Mike Jacobs said Wednesday.

“When you think about a legacy player, he was an all-star, captain for the U.S. national team, two-time MLS defender of the year. He leaves here in very, very good standing and [with] a very good relationship with our players and staff. I wish him well in whatever he’s doing.”
