A Labour councillor in Salford has stepped down, with the seat to be contested in May 2026.

Roseanna Wain was a councillor in the Blackfriars and Trinity ward and announced her decision to move on from the role yesterday.

Salford council said there will not be a by-election for the vacant seat because of the approaching local elections in May.

The ward covers an area in Salford city centre, near the boundary with Manchester.

She was first elected to the seat during a by-election in November 2021, finishing ahead of the Green Party, Lib Dems , and Conservatives in the race.
