PORTLAND, Conn — A deadly crash closed the Arrigoni Bridge for several hours Tuesday night, according to the Portland Police Department. The bridge has since reopened to traffic.
The state Department of Transportation said the crash involved two cars and that the closure was between Marlborough Street in Portland and St. Johns Square in Middletown.
The head-on crash happened on the Portland side of the bridge at 8:43 p.m., according to police and fire officials.
One driver was pronounced dead at the scene, who police identified identified as Jozef Baran, 70, of Middletown. Another driver was injured and taken to the hospital; the female driver's condition is not known at this time.
