SALEM, S.C. —
In April, we introduced you to Brinlee Cannon, a now-13-year-old from Salem, South Carolina, who needed a new heart to live.
Now, more than six months later, Cannon has finally received a heart transplant.
Last April, the community of Salem rallied around Brinlee as she traveled to Charleston MUSC, uncertain of when she would return home. Kim Cannon, Brinlee's grandma, shared her emotional struggle, saying, "It breaks my heart. My heart's broke because her heart's broke, and I can't do anything about it. I mean, if I could give her my heart, it's hers."
Now, Brinlee is embracing life with her new heart.
Her father, Cody Cannon, said, "I mean, every kid deserves to, you know, to get to enjoy their young years."
Reflecting on the surgery, Cody Cannon said, "I was scared.
