A federal judge in Illinois on Wednesday offered trenchant criticism of the Trump administration 's immigration detention policy — specifically attempts by the U.S. Department of Justice to defend the policy.
The ruling comes in a case about the Trump administration's long-litigated efforts to reconfigure how Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) classifies certain immigrants under its purview.
