MASON CITY, Iowa – On a sunny November afternoon, a new era in outdoor activity began in River City.

An open house was held Wednesday for Mason City’s new Prairie Rock Trails Bike Park. Located at 1500 Elm Drive and next to the Lime Creek Conservation Area, the new facility will connect riders to more than 20 miles of trails and 600 acres of scenic parkland.

Among the features of the bike park:

- A “kiddie track" complete with paved paths and a wooden boardwalk

- Jumps, paved pump tracks, and technical single track trails for advanced cyclists

- A shelter at the trailhead inspired by local architectural styles and surrounded by picnic areas and educational displays

Organizers say additional trails will be added.
