CHAMPION TWP., Ohio - Officials in Champion Township and the City of Warren are ironing out a deal on how to share the income tax generated by the new Mercy Health Emergency Room.
A draft of a Joint Economic Development District or JEDD is being considered. It would make a three member board - one from the township, city and a mutually agreed upon member. They would oversee the area that taxes itself at a 2.5% rate then the revenue from that tax would be split between the township and city.
“It's going to generate a revenue stream that we will not have to go to the township residents for possibly a levy,” Rex Fee, a Trustee for Champion Township said.
For the first two and a half years income tax revenue would be split 45% to the city and 55% to the township. After that it would be
