UPDATE: The Chattanooga Land Bank Authority broke ground in Alton Park on its first affordable home on Wednesday.
The Oakland Avenue project is being built in partnership with Wind River Built, which received the property as a donation through the Land Bank’s affordable housing initiative.
The groundbreaking marks the first of more housing opportunities expected in the coming year after the Land Bank launches an application process on November 17.
The process is expected to be competitive as it will make six more properties available for affordable homeownership development.
“This groundbreaking is more than the start of construction on a single home — it marks the beginning of a new chapter in Chattanooga’s housing sector,” said Mayor Tim Kelly.
