Two top Virginia Republicans, with just a few months in leadership positions before the election, are facing criticism after the party’s significant losses — and for one, an actual contest for office.

Del. Mike Cherry, R- Colonial Heights, is seeking the House GOP caucus’s nod to oust House Minority Leader Terry Kilgore, R-Scott.

Separately, Loudoun County Republican chair Scott Pio, who lost a bid to become the state party chair by a 62-15 vote in April, says the man who won that post, state Sen. Mark Peake, R- Lynchburg, should resign.

So should the party’s executive leaders and every member of the state central committee who has worked as a consultant for any candidate in the past five years, Pio said.
