Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand, hosting a summit of her G7 counterparts, today announced new sanctions on Russia that target individuals and companies behind drone and cyberattacks on Ukraine.
Steven Chase reports that the measures freeze any assets they may have in Canada and prohibit Canadian financial institutions from providing services to them.
When imposed in concert with Canada’s allies, the sanctions prevent them from evading these strictures by switching banking operations or assets to another Western country.
Anand made the announcement alongside Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Minister Andrii Sybiha, who is also attending the G7 meeting in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.
