NEWPORT NEWS —The criminal case against the former assistant principal at Richneck Elementary School has been postponed to give time for her defense attorneys to review a transcript from a recently concluded civil trial.

The three-day trial against Ebony J. Parker — charged with eight counts of felony child neglect stemming from a 6-year-old boy’s shooting of his teacher on Jan. 6, 2023 — had been scheduled to begin with jury selection Monday.

The trial is now set for May 18-21.

On Wednesday, Parker’s attorneys Stephen Teague and Curtis Rogers told Newport News Circuit Court Judge Rebecca Robinson that they need more time to review the voluminous transcript of the seven-day civil trial that concluded last week.
