A former chief of staff to Gov. Gavin Newsom is alleged to have conspired with others to divert thousands of dollars from a political campaign to an associate’s personal use, as well as to create false contracts.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California announced the charges against Dana Williamson, 53, of Carmichael, on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
