WASHINGTON — More than seven weeks after Arizona residents elected her to the U.S. House of Representatives, Democratic Rep. Adelita Grijalva was officially sworn into office Wednesday.
The ceremony took place the same day House Republicans returned to the Capitol to vote on a temporary funding bill the Senate approved Monday night to reopen the government.
"While we celebrate this moment today, our American promise is under serious threat," Grijalva said on the House floor. "Basic freedoms are under attack. Health care premiums are skyrocketing. Babies are being ripped away from their parents by masked agents. We can and must do better.
