LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Nearly 500,000 veterans from across the state were recognized Wednesday at Heritage Hall at the Michigan State Capitol as part of continuing Veterans Day festivities in Lansing.

The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency organized the annual gathering to thank military members and their families for their sacrifices. The event placed special focus on Vietnam War veterans.

Service members from all branches of the military received commemorative pins for their bravery during the Vietnam War.

Director of the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency Brian Love said Vietnam veterans were left out of the pinning tradition for many years, but the state of Michigan is working to change that.
