The Washington State Cougars have fired athletic director Anne McCoy, according to Percy Allen of the Seattle Times.
She spent less than two years in the role, being promoted to the position in June of 2024 after serving as the interim for three months. McCoy has worked at Washington State since 2001, when she was named the associate director of athletics for internal operations, and has served in a variety of roles.
“Anne has provided steady leadership through one of the most complex and pivotal periods in the history of Cougar Athletics,” WSU President Elizabeth Cantwell said in a statement. “She built a strong foundation for the program’s future grounded in integrity, academic success, and care for our student-athletes. We are deeply grateful for Anne’s decades of service and her unwavering commitment to Washington State University.”
McCoy helped lead the Cougars during massive changes to the Pac-12 when 10 of their 12 members left for other conferences. She helped the league secure a media rights agreement with the CW Network and FOX for the 2024 football season. She also hired football head coach Jimmy Rogers and men’s basketball head coach David Riley.
Rogers has led the football program to a 4-5 record in his first season on the job. The basketball program is 1-2 to start the season, their second under Riley. They went 19-15 last year, competing in the West Coast Conference.
